Frequently Asked Questions

CCNH VISTA Program

Do I have to be Catholic to be an AmeriCorps member in the CCNH VISTA Program?

No, you do not need to be Catholic to be an AmeriCorps member in the CCNH VISTA Program. Catholic Charities NH is the sponsoring agency and decided to become such because its mission of helping all those in need aligns well with AmeriCorps VISTA’s mission of fighting against poverty.

Does the CCNH VISTA Program provide housing?

No, we do not provide housing for you. We can connect you to the NH-wide AmeriCorps housing Facebook group so you can see if there are others looking for roommates or who have rooms available. However, securing housing is your responsibility.

Will transportation be provided for me?

No, we will not provide transportation for you. You must be able to supply your own reliable transportation.

What is expected of me as an AmeriCorps member in the CCNH VISTA Program?

AmeriCorps members in the CCNH VISTA Program are required to attend our bi-monthly meetings, the three service days (MLK Jr Day in January, AmeriCorps Week in March, and 9/11 Remembrance Service Day in September), and additional events (including the Governor’s Conference on Volunteerism in May). You also are required to submit a monthly progress report and a monthly timesheet as well as a series of surveys throughout the year (expectations survey upon start, first quarter survey after 3 months, 6 month evaluation and site visit, and an exit interview in the last 45 days).

Will I be serving at Catholic Charities NH?

No, Catholic Charities NH is the sponsoring agency for the program, which means we receive a grant from AmeriCorps and we work with other organizations throughout NH, who serve as host sites. These host sites are where our AmeriCorps members serve.

What would my hours be?

VISTAs follow their host site’s work schedule and should expect to serve full-time (generally that means between 35 and 40 hours a week).

Application/Hiring Process

What is the application process?

You apply via the my.americorps website. The Project Coordinator or VISTA Leader will contact you to set up an initial phone call to share more information about the program. After that, you will receive the VAD (VISTA Assignment Description) and your application will be sent to the host site supervisor. From there, the host site supervisor will contact you to set up an interview. The interview process for each host site may differ, so make sure you ask the host site supervisor what their process is. If you are extended an offer and accept it, you will need to log back into my.americorps to formally accept the offer. This will trigger a series of emails from AmeriCorps to move you along through the onboarding process. Generally you can expect the emails within about 2 weeks of your start date.

If I accept a position, when would I start?

AmeriCorps sets the start dates. We accept applications throughout the year and have rolling admission based on our host sites’ needs. During your interview process we will let you know the upcoming start dates, but you can also find them on the “Become a CCNH VISTA” page.
